ADITEL'S STATEMENTS ON  EMC, WARRANTY etc.

  THE ADITEL ORGANIZATION:

Aditel is a small company designing and manufacturing electronic equipment, mostly for the commercial marine industry. We have been in business since 1987

Whilst I am responsible for the policy everyone else in the company is equally responsible for producing our high quality results. I am the proprietor, manager and designer of Aditel.

Andrew Fairgrieve 4 July 1998.

   QUALITY. THE POLICY:

My policy is to design, supply, and give service that meets the needs of my clients, and gives good value for money.

POSTSCRIPT:

The equipment we supply or design is very high quality as evidenced to me by its reliability in service and absence of returns for repair. The reliability of our products is due to reliability being designed-in. The means by which we achieve these high quality results is considered confidential. It is the high quality result that counts.

For instance, no NAVTALK interfaces out of about 3500 have ever been returned with a genuine failure. Aditel interfaces may be seen still in service after 10 years continuous operation. This reliability is what is important about a quality result. Hardware and software features as standard include self-protected voltage regulators, program-run and power watchdog circuit, with LEDs on essential inputs and outputs.

My policy, developed over many years, does not find ISO 9000 relevant to our operation. The essential question is if the quality of our goods will be enhanced by ISO 9000, and I do not believe it will. We clearly have a quality management system that consistently produces good quality goods.

EMC DIRECTIVE 89/336/EEC and 92/31/EECKeep it simplified s-VDR SVDR voyage data recorder etc

All ADITEL products are certified as compliant with the directive. (BS EN 60945)

BACKGROUND: We have been designing for EMC before the directives were issued. We have self-certified our products by practical tests, and by EMC laboratory tests, and will continue to do so. My designs cure problems. They do not create them.

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE FOR CLIENTS: The clients instructions regarding EMC will be carried out. They may select any method of certification they care to pay for, or none at all. We will always offer guidance with the aim of achieving compliance and value for money.

SALE OF BOUGHT-IN GOODS: Generally we re-sell goods without any alteration of their EMC characteristics, or their warranty.

 RoHS  STATEMENT:

Aditel and its suppliers are in compliance with the RoHS directive.

RoHS = “Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances" in electrical and electronic equipment-

The European Commission directive specifies the maximum concentrations of lead and of five other hazardous substances that can be present in products that include electronic sub-assemblies and systems. The directive came in force on July 1 2006 with certain penalties. The complete directive can be found at this web address:

Electrostatic Sensitive Devices:

One client has asked for a procedure on securing "ESD". Here it is.

  1. Static sensitive devices are integrated circuits and display modules which arrive in their own protective packaging, and remain in their protective packaging until they are required for assembly.
  2. The design of all Aditel PCBs ensures that the sensitive gates of ICs are all protected from electrostatic discharges during and after assembly.
  3. Assembly of PCBs takes place using conductive mats and grounded soldering irons.
  4. Finished products and PCBs are stored carefully. PCBs for clients are packed in ESD protective bags, as well as sufficient mechanical protection.
  5. Aditel has been manufacturing since being established in 1978. We can not attribute ANY failure whatever to electrostatic discharge, therefore our simple precautions are quite adequate.

  TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE

PAYMENT: For open accounts payment shall be within 30 days of invoice unless otherwise agreed. We reserve the right to charge interest at 1.5% per month on overdue accounts. We have a credit limit based on what Aditel can risk ultimately losing, not based on the client's worthiness.

Aditel retains title to goods until they are paid for.

WARRANTY ON GOODS NOT MADE BY ADITEL:

In respect of goods made by a company for whom Aditel acts as a dealer, reselling the goods, the maker’s warranty and conditions apply. Aditel do not enhance or change the warranty.

In particular, note that low value products such as leisure craft radars and GPS do not come with free on-site service in order to keep their price down.

GOODS MADE BY ADITEL:

In respect of goods made by Aditel we warrant them to be of good quality manufacture.

Guarantee in respect of any defect is limited to making good by replacement or repair, defects arising during proper use which were the result of failing materials or components, faulty workmanship, or Aditel's own software problem, within 12 months of delivery of the original goods. However, when we manufacture for a client who specifies or supplies materials or components we do not accept a warranty claim if those parts fail, the client holds that responsibility.

The integrated circuits we use in the products carry their maker's conditions of use into the ADITEL products. The main one is that the products are not authorised for use in life-support devices or systems, or when their failure can be expected to cause damage or injury.

If a problem is due to incompatibility of the NMEA 0183 interfacing communications protocol, Aditel reserve the right to charge for any software update.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

Faulty goods are normally to be returned to Aditel for remedy.

Goods and service are supplied on the basis that we are not responsible for additional or consequential costs due to fault, operation, incorrect specification, or delay in delivery.

A client’s order will not change any of these conditions, unless I agree in advance. A clients terms and conditions must be supplied with their order, and be written in normal size print in plain English on no more than 2 sheets of paper.
